MRI results

Yesterday we spent the day at Hopkins. Sarah is scheduled for MRI’s every 3 months for the next 2 years...and yesterday was the first round of MRI’s since her surgery. They were looking to see if the tumor is growing back, and they were looking at another area that they were suspicious about. We spent the day there, and for the most part, Sarah did well. She didn’t get nauseous (like she has in the past) but took a while to come out of sedation The pictures show her sleeping in bed right after the MRI (still under sedation) and then transitioning to sleeping on mom! Before long she was actively eating crackers and downing apple juice!

We got the preliminary reports from the MRI today. The doctor emailed us the following report:

I am not sure if anyone else got in touch with you, but the preliminary result from Sarah's MRI is good: there are some "post-surgical changes" in the area where the tumor was, but nothing that looks like recurrence. The rest of the chest looks clear. I should emphasize that this is the preliminary read -- the report indicates the MRI has not yet been fully reviewed by the senior radiologist. That much being said, the result is very encouraging.

We asked what “post surgical changes” means and he said
Post-surgical changes = scar tissue and surgical "clips" where they stapled back together layers of muscle or tendon sheath. These are generally expected findings after surgery.

We are very happy with this news and are receiving this as the incredible kindness of God! Thank you for praying for us yesterday.

She looks like an angel laying there.. I know the post-anasthesia routine is not so angelic, though. Glad this one is out of the way. 1 down, 7 to go. :)

Do the staples stay inside?

Praise God for this initial report! We were relieved to hear this news and continue to pray for many more clean MRI's. On another note, what a joy to be at church yesterday and hear the testimonies of the youth. It made me grateful yet again for the solid teaching we get here and the faithful leadership of our pastors. Thanks Dave for your labor in the gospel.
